Back to the Gym: Fitness During COVID

With many communities returning to some semblance of “normal” while the pandemic continues, consideration has to be given to what normal looks like for each one of us, particularly as we prepare to return to the gym. Returning to your favorite workout spot might induce a myriad of emotions: eagerness, joy, worry, fear, and in some cases, even shame. The pandemic affected everyone, but it affected everyone differently. What can you do to enable yourself to continue your self-care fitness journey as you work your way back to the gym during the COVID pandemic?

  1. Follow the gym’s guidelines for cleanliness and safety standards. Following local health and safety guidelines can ease your mind when returning to the gym. Receive the vaccine if you feel it’s the right choice for you. Wear your mask if required, or even if it’s not, and wash your hands frequently. Social distance and follow the gym’s guidelines for cleaning equipment between uses.
  2. Indulge in positive thinking. Eliminate negative thoughts, including discouragement from social media or other potentially toxic sources. Your health journey is yours—take ownership of how you feel about it.
  3. Practice grace. Getting motivated again may take some effort, but give yourself some grace. Don’t beat yourself up if it takes you a while to reach that next goal or to even get through the door!
  4. Ease into it. Take your time. Gradually add more workouts to your routine. Give yourself time to adjust, but commit to what that adjustment looks like for you.
  5. Celebrate! Each victory is its own reward, and you deserve to celebrate it! Two half-hour workouts this week versus one? Did you just enjoy reconnecting with familiar faces such as the staff at Bfit in Evansville and Newburgh? Celebrate!

If you’re looking for a clean and friendly gym to get back into shape and reconnect with others, we invite you to contact Bfit or stop in for a visit! You are always welcome here.
