Running in the heat of summer takes extra planning and preparation for your workout clothes. In Evansville the risk of heat stroke, dehydration, or other heat-related complications isn’t to be taken lightly, whether you’re a casual runner or a professional athlete. You can’t control the weather, but there are steps you can take to make sure pursuing your love of running doesn’t adversely affect your health. In addition to making sure you stay hydrated, choosing the right apparel can help you stay cool and comfortable during your run.
Choose the right fabric. In Evansville, cotton workout clothes retain sweat and don’t dry rapidly. You’ll want to wear a synthetic blend that wicks moisture away from the skin. Use this strategy for all your garments including bras, underwear, and socks.
Pay attention to your feet. Particularly, don’t wear cotton socks. Your feet are guaranteed to get sweaty, and if your feet can’t breathe, they will stay wet, which might lead to blistering. For running socks, look at fabrics like polyester, acrylic, or COOLMAX® to wick moisture away from your feet.
Dress minimally. Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing that allows the body to breathe and cool down naturally. In Evansville, workout clothes with dark colors absorb heat, and you definitely don’t want anything sticking to your skin.
Protect your eyes. Wear a good pair of running classes to shield your eyes from the sun. Exposure to bright light and constant squinting can damage your eyes and lead to headaches, which can be avoided by wearing the right sunglasses.
Leave your head uncovered. Wear a visor to keep the sun off your face. Wearing a hat will keep the heat on your head instead of letting it release to the air.
Slather it on! With any outdoor activity, be sure to use a good sunscreen to prevent sunburn. Apply at least an SPF 15 before dressing for your run. You’ll want to make sure every area is covered and no skin is revealed through mesh or other small holes in the fabric.
